Romans 13:8–10 (NLT)
Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.
1. To love others as we love ourselves is to love the way God loves.
1 John 4:7–10 (NLT)
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.1 John 4:16–19 (NLT)God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first.
2. How we love is an indication of who we love most.
3. How we love indicates our understanding of how God loves us.
How to Love Like God Loves and Move Our Relationships into the Kingdom Blessing:
1. Receive God’s love and acceptance for yourself.
2. Seek to love others as you accept His love for yourself.
3. When we are hurt and offended, forgive quickly.
Matthew 6:12,14–15 (NLT)
and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. …If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
4. When we find that we have hurt and offended someone, we repent quickly.
Matthew 5:23–24 (NLT)
So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
